CLEVELAND, Ohio - Central Michigan University junior point guard Giordan Watson of Birmingham (Mich.) Groves High School has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week by the league office.

Giordan Watson tied a career-high with 30 points in CMU’s 74-68 road win at Eastern Michigan last Saturday.

He helped CMU win back-to-back road games for the first time since 2003. It also marked CMU’s first win in a MAC opener since 2000-01.

After EMU erased an 11-point Chippewa lead and the Eagles held a three-point advantage, Watson scored CMU’s next eight points to halt the EMU rally and he sealed the win with a pair of free throws in the game’s closing seconds. Watson also tied for team-high honors with five rebounds and he dished out three assists while tallying a steal.

It marked Watson’s third 30-point game of his career and his second this season.

He ranks second in the MAC in scoring (18.5 ppg) and tied for third in assists (4.38).
