MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Dan LeFevour accounted for six of Central Michigan's seven touchdowns and 337 yards of total offense as the Chippewas won their conference opener, 48-21, over Akron.
The Chippewas (3-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) were firing on all cylinders from the beginning, blocking a field goal on the first drive of the game and reaching the end zone in just four plays on their second possession.
The defense forced two additional punts and recovered a fumble during the remainder of the first quarter while LeFevour paced the offense with a pair of touchdown passes. On the first drive of the game, with a 5-yard completion to
Kito Poblah
, the senior became just the seventh quarterback in MAC history to eclipse the 10,000-yard career passing plateau.
Dan LeFevour
set up the game's first score with a career-long 53-yard run before finding
Cody Wilson
for a 27-yard touchdown pass at the 7:11 mark, and followed with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Poblah on the next drive.
LeFevour added a rushing touchdown on the second play of the second quarter, a 1-yard run that capped a 7-play, 27-yard drive and gave the Chippewas a 20-0 lead.
The Zips' first touchdown came on a two-play drive after a botched punt gave
Akron
possession at the CMU 11-yard line. The punt was the only one of four CMU possessions in the second quarter that failed to end in a touchdown. LeFevour added a 2-yard scoring run at the 6:47 mark and completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to
Antonio Brown
with 1:02 left in the half, giving the Chippewas a 34-7 lead.
The Chippewas allowed just 21 total yards in the first half, while LeFevour accounted for 213 of the squad's 283 yards.
Central Michigan
added a touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth, on drives of 11 plays and 13 plays, respectively, that combined for over 11:30. Akron scored with 6:19 left in the game on a 9-yard run by Joe Tuzze on third down, the Zips' only third-down conversion of the game (1-12).
LeFevour racked up 140 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, for his ninth career 100-yard rushing game, while completing 23-of-31 passing for 197 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.
The Chippewas have scored 48 points in back-to-back games for just the second time in school history and the first since 1974. Meanwhile, they have held back-to-back opponents under 200 total yards.
