Brown Named MAC West Special Teams POTW

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan's Antonio Brown has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week.

Antonio Brown, a junior from Miami (Fla.) Norland High School, returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of Central Michigan University's 48-0 win over Alcorn State on Saturday.

Brown tallied 113 yards on three punt returns, an average of 37.7 yards per return. Brown also had punt returns covering 30 and 28 yards, both of which set up the Chippewas' offense inside the Alcorn State 25-yard line and led to scoring drives.

He also was CMU's leading receiver in the contest, catching four passes for 32 yards.

Brown ranks sixth nationally in punt return yardage, averaging 21.1 yards per return in 2009. He led the nation in punt return yardage in 2008.

Brown earns the conference's weekly honor for the first time this season and third time in his career.

CMU (2-1 overall) opens MAC play at home this weekend against Akron. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
