MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University senior quarterback Dan LeFevour has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2009 Maxwell Award.
Dan LeFevour
is the only player from the Mid-American Conference among the 55 players on the watch list. The Maxwell Award is presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to the most outstanding player in college football.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Nov. 4. Three finalists will be announced Nov. 23. The winner of the 2009 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 10. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Entertainment Atlantic City on March 5, 2010.
LeFevour also has been named to the watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, presented to college football’s top quarterback.
LeFevour enters the 2009 season first among active Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks in completions (853), attempts (1,307) and total offense (11,702), second in passing yards (9,467) and fourth in touchdown passes (74). His total offense career yardage ranks 14th in Bowl Subdivision history. In the Mid-American Conference record book, LeFevour ranks second in total offense, sixth in completions, seventh in passing yards, tied for seventh in touchdown passes and eighth in career attempts.
LeFevour is one of just two players in NCAA history to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season. He also is one of just two players to pass for 20 touchdowns and score 20 touchdowns in the same season. He accomplished both feats in 2007 and was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year. He is a three-time All-MAC honoree, earning first team honors in 2006 and 2007 and second team accolades in 2008.
An interpersonal communication major with a 3.57 grade-point average, LeFevour is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree and was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second team in 2008.
LeFevour recently was announced as a nominee for the American Football Coaches Association’s Good Works Team.
