MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University men's basketball player Marcus Van has been named an honorable mention All-Mid-American Conference selection.
This is the first such honor for Van, a 6-7 center from Chicago, Ill. He led the Chippewas to a share of the MAC West Division title for the first time since 2003.
Marcus Van
finished the regular season as
Central Michigan
's leading scorer (12.8 ppg) and rebounder (8.4). He also led the Chippewas in field goal percentage (.514) and blocked shots (1.5 per game). Van ranked first in the MAC in rebounding, both overall and in conference games (8.6). He also ranked first in the conference in offensive rebounding (3.42), second in blocks and fourth in field goal percentage. Van had six double-doubles this year, the most by a CMU player since 2003, with five of those coming in MAC play which led the league.
Van was twice named the MAC West Division Player of the Week (Jan. 26 & March 9). He holds the conference season high for rebounds in a game with 20 against
Northern Illinois
. He also led CMU in scoring a team-high 10 times and in rebounding a squad-best 16 times. Van tallied 18 double-figure scoring games, which is tied for a team-high and reached double digits seven times in rebounding.
The Chippewas begin the MAC Tournament on Tuesday as the No. 7 seed. They will play No. 10 seeded
Eastern Michigan
at noon in Quicken Loans Arena.
