CMU Recruiting Class Ranked No. 1 in MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University's 2009 football recruiting class has been ranked as the No. 1 class in the Mid-American Conference by Scout.com.

Scout.com also ranks the Chippewas' signing class as No. 68 nationally. No other MAC program is ranked higher than 89th nationally by Scout.com.

Central Michigan head coach Butch Jones announced the signing of 30 high school student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

CMU's class of 30 signees represents eight different states. Thirteen recruits hail from the state of Michigan; CMU signed more recruits from the state of Michigan than any other Bowl Subdivision program. Other states represented in CMU's class are Maryland, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

All 13 signees from Michigan were ranked among the top 50 players in the state in the Detroit Free Press Fab 50. Nineteen members of the class helped lead their high school teams to conference championships, state championships or postseason appearances, and 23 served as captains of their high school teams.

CMU opens the 2009 season at Arizona on Sept. 5.
