MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan senior quarterback Brian Brunner and junior kicker Andrew Aguila have earned Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors.
Brian Brunner
of Hartford (Wisc.) Union High School was named West Division Offensive Player of the Week and
Andrew Aguila
of Compton (Calif.) Junior College was selected West Division Special Teams Player of the Week for their efforts in CMU’s 38-28 win over
Western Michigan
on Saturday.
Brunner, making his third career start and first since Sept. 30, 2006, completed 20-of-28 passes for 346 yards and a touchdown to pace an offense that produced season highs in points (38) and total yards (524). The Chippewas were 10-for-15 on third downs in the game, including conversions on third-and-16, third-and-25 and third-and-21 – all Brunner completions – that extended three different scoring drives.
Brunner earns the conference’s player of the week honor for the second time in his career.
Aguila was a perfect 5-for-5 on point-after attempts and converted a 20-yard field goal attempt with 1:20 remaining to account for eight points in the win. Aguila is 23-for-23 on extra points and 8-for-10 on field goals this season.
This is Aguila’s second career player of the week honor. He also was recognized after converting four point-after attempts and two field goals against Western Michigan in 2007.
Central Michigan (5-2 overall, 4-0 MAC) embarks on its second three-game road trip of the season this weekend when it visits
Toledo
. Kickoff is at noon, and the game will be televised as the MAC Game of the Week.
