Wisconsin Forward to Visit CMU
The muscular 6-foot-7, 225-pound Brown does indeed stand out in a crowd, it's just that the first player many people see on the Eau Claire North basketball team is 6-foot-11 junior center Evan Anderson.
Anderson, who is already verbally committed to Wisconsin, is unquestionably one of the top players in the state regardless of class, but Brown is not far behind. Last season the two of them led Eau Claire North to an 18-5 overall record.
"It's definitely helped me having Evan at center, because it allows me to play the position (power forward) I will in college," said Brown, who averaged more than 12 points and eight rebounds per game last season for the Huskies. "I prefer to play face-up to the basket but I can play with my back to the basket too. I try to be an all-around player and I take pride in my leadership."
Those qualities have not gone unnoticed by a handful of Division I college programs, including Central Michigan University, which offered Brown a scholarship after watching him play at an AAU event last month in Indianapolis.
"The CMU coaches were there to scout a couple other players but I stood out so they offered me a scholarship," Brown said. "I hadn't heard from CMU before that but I'm definitely interested in them and plan to take an official visit there soon."
The Chippewas are not Brown's only offer. He said he's also received scholarship offers from Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, North Dakota State and Boston University.
"I'm planning to take official visits to Boston University and North Dakota State this fall too," said Brown, who shot 57 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free-throw line last season for Eau Claire North. "I want to commit before our season starts this fall."
Brown said he also plans to visit in-state schools UWGB and UWM before making a decision.
"I'm open right now," Brown said. "Distance from home isn't a big deal to me. The biggest thing for me is I just want to feel comfortable with the school."
