Keith Selected to All-Mayday Team

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University senior linebacker Red Keith of Franklin (Ga.) Heard County High School is one of 22 players selected to the 2007 All-Mayday team.

ESPN college football analyst Mark May selects the team each season. The All-Mayday team honors players who have demonstrated an outstanding level of toughness and determination through a season or career.

Red Keith, an All-Mid-American Conference first team selection, led Central Michigan with 148 tackles in 2007. He became just the second player in school history to lead the team in tackles four consecutive seasons and concluded his career second on the Chippewas' career tackles list with 474.

Keith played through myriad injuries during the 2007 season. Offseason shoulder surgery prevented him from participating in spring practice and much of training camp; during the season, Keith had little or no contact and took limited snaps in practice each week. He played through a broken thumb and torn biceps tendon suffered early in the 2007 season, took injections in his shoulder prior to each game and had fluid drained from his knee prior to the Motor City Bowl.

The Chippewas' inspirational leader on the field and in the locker room, Keith is a mathematics major with a 3.25 grade-point average. He was named to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV first team during the 2007 season. Keith started 49 of a possible 50 games during his career.
