Central Michigan University offensive tackle Joe Staley was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon.

Offensive tackle Joe Staley made history today by being the first player in the history of Central Michigan University football to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Staley was drafted with the No. 28 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers.

The highest previous draft pick for the Chippewas was in 1985 when defensive back Jim Bowman was taken in the second round (52nd overall) by the New England Patriots.

Two more Chippewas are expected to be selected in this year's draft, defensive end Daniel Bazuin and center Drew Mormino.
