MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University senior defensive end Daniel Bazuin of McBain (Mich.) High School has been named the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Daniel Bazuin, a marketing major with a 3.39 GPA, had six tackles, including two sacks, in Central Michigan's 42-20 victory at Toledo on Saturday. On his first sack, he forced a fumble that he recovered and returned 32 yards for a score, sending CMU into the locker ahead 21-14 after trailing 14-0. It was the first touchdown of his career and first multiple-sack game of the season.

Bazuin was named MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week for his efforts against the Rockets.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

Bazuin and the Chippewas (3-3 overall, 3-0 MAC) host Ball State on Saturday at 1 p.m. It is Homecoming Weekend in Mount Pleasant.
