Chippewas Strike Again in Wisconsin
Another day didn't matter though. This morning, Olson was able to contact Quinn and he gave him the good news.
"Coach Quinn said, 'Do you have something you want to tell me?'" Olson related. "I said, yes I do. I'm committing to CMU! Coach Quinn was real happy."
Rated among the top 15 players in Wisconsin for 2007 and one of the top three offensive linemen, Olson said he couldn't be happier with his decision.
"It feels great," Olson said. "I visited CMU in April and I really liked the campus and town a lot."
This evening, Olson said he called CMU quarterback and fellow Hartford native Brian Brunner to tell him the news of his commitment.
"Brian congratulated me and welcomed me to CMU," Olson said. "It's really nice that Brian is up there already."
Olson said he also had a scholarship offer from Western Michigan and was receiving recruiting interest from Wyoming, Wisconsin, Northern Illinois and Ball State.
He said the CMU coaches expect him to bulk up to around 300 pounds and play offensive tackle. Olson said he's been clocked at 4.8 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Olson is the third Wisconsin prep player in less than a month to make a verbal commitment to the Chippewas. He joins defensive end J.J. Watt of Pewaukee, who committed last week, and linebacker Nick Bellore of Whitefish Bay, who committed two weeks ago.
CMU now has five verbal commitments in its 2007 recruiting class. The Chippewas are also recruiting Wisconsin offensive lineman Scott Wedige of Elkhorn High School, who was scheduled to visit campus this weekend.
