CMU Men Fall at Miami, 71-61

OXFORD, Ohio - Kevin Nelson scored 21 points and 7-1 freshman Drew Walker added 10 but it wasn't enough to prevent Miami University from rolling to a 71-61 men's basketball win over Central Michigan University here Wednesday night.
The win upped the RedHawk record to 8-4 and 3-1 in Mid-American Conference play while CMU is now 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.
The Chippewas are back home on Saturday, Jan. 15, for a game with
Northern Illinois
at 2 p.m.
Kevin Nelson
nailed 4-of-8 three-pointers en route to his game-high 21 points. He also plucked off a team-high seven rebounds.
Drew Walker
had an impressive performance for the Chippewas in his first start. Not only did he score a career-high 10 points in 30 minutes but he collected career highs with six rebounds and five blocked shots. He also had two steals and one assist.
Sefton Barrett
and
Robert Sevalia
were next in scoring for CMU with nine and eight points, respectively.
Danny Horace led
Miami
with 17 points while Chet Mason added 15 points and a game-high 11 caroms. Josh Hausfeld also scored 15.
Central Michigan hit 23-of-55 from the field for 42 percent compared to Miami's 24-of-58 for 41 percent. The RedHawks held a 40-35 edge in rebounding.
The Chippewas led 15-8 with 14:36 to play in the half but Miami rallied to grab a 37-33 lead at the half. CMU tied it at 39-39 with 16:09 to go before MU went on an 8-0 run to take control for good.
