Basirico Talks First Offer

Macomb Dakota (Mich.) junior safety David Basirico is excited by his recent Central Michigan offer, his first of the process.

Central Michigan recently became the first school to offer Macomb Dakota's hard hitting 6'2, 175-lb safety David Basirico.

"I was kind of surprised because it was kind of early and I was coming off a little injury at the end of the season," he explained. "I knew it was coming, but I didn't know it would be that soon. It's really exciting and it felt exciting and motivational to see the future and look forward to playing at the next level."

Basirico was offered on a visit to Mount Pleasant, and he says he really liked what he saw.

"I thought it was really cool up there. They have really really nice indoor facilities and weight room. I've been to the stadium a couple times. I've been up there for a couple games. It's a nice atmosphere. I really like the campus and the school."

Basirico had 56 tackles, five pass breakups and a sack as a junior while showing aggressiveness, and a willingness to throw his body around. The Chippewas had a chance to see him in person a couple times and that also helped lead to the offer.

"They saw me as being used as a safety or DB and said I fit here because we run kind of a similar type of defense as Central does and they came and saw me at the State camp and their camp. They like what they see and like my combine times. They said I'm consistent in my 40 time also they're also impressed with my track times and high jump."

The Chippewas look like they'll have some competition for Basirico, as there are other programs also showing interest.

" "I visited Michigan State in the summer for their one day camp and I went to the Syracuse at Cincinnati game. Also, I have been contacted by Missouri, MAC schools like Ball State and D2 schools."

Basirico has recorded a 4.6 forty, 4.1 shuttle and 33-inch vertical jump. He has also recorded a 22.2 in the 200-meter dash.
