After a strong performance at Michigan State, the offers begin to trickle in for Romeo offensive lineman Austin Doan. However, rather than wait for more, he choose a school he knew was right for him: Central Michigan.
"Ferris State offered me after Michigan State's camp on Saturday and then on Father's Day, CMU offered me. I committed [Wednesday] at 5."
The choice was made largely because of familiarity and where Doan feels the program is headed.
"I've been there like 5-6 times. I know how practices work. I like the coaching staff and the athletic director really likes the staff and how they've turned it around. They had nine true freshmen start last year, someone told me. I like the facilities and I want to go into sports management for my major and they have a really well known program for that so that's aonther reason."
Also important in the decision was having friend and teammate Joe Bacci up there. Bacci, a linebacker in the 2012 class is set to join the Chippewas and will be a big help to Doan once he gets om campus.
"He's going up this weekend. I think it will help me a lot. He'll be able to show me what they do so I can better understand it. I can go up there and talk to him about the practices and everything. It really helps to have teammates that I had on my team at CMU too. That played a role too."
