The Opening, a comprehensive football training camp held at Nike headquarters in
Beaverton, Ore., was one of the most talent laden events I've ever attended.
Here is a look at dozens of players who made plays during the 7on competition.

Video - Watch Video
Cayleb Jones, WR, 6'3/185, Austin, Texas
The Opening - Land Sharks
Recruitment - Committed to Texas
Comments - A physically gifted wide receiver, Jones had trouble getting on track

the routes to the passes.
Video - Watch Video
Chad Kelly, QB, 6'3/205, Buffalo, N.Y.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - Committed to Clemson
Comments - Kelly was poised and accurate on the short and intermediate routes.
He has an average arm with above average decision making and accuracy.
Video - Watch Video
Chris Bivins, CB, 6'0/170, Gainesville, Fla.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to USF
Comments - A big cornerback, Bivins has a good backpedal and long arms. He has
the frame of a potential safety, but the skills to stick at corner.
Video - Watch Video
Christo Kourtzidis, TE, 6'4/240, Orange, Calif.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to Florida State
Comments - Kourtzidis has a big frame and soft hands, he has a long stride in
the open field giving him decent speed. Does a good job of using his hands on
his catches instead of his body.
Video - Watch Video
Connor Brewer, QB, 6'2/200, Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to Texas
Comments - Brewer had the best pure throwing motion and delivery of all the
quarterbacks in attendance. Struggled at times picking the right receiver with
the game on the line. Does a good job of using every quadrant of the field.
Video - Watch Video
Corey Coleman, WR, 5'11/180, Richardson, Texas
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to Baylor
Comments - A solidly built receiver, Coleman has the quickness and toughness to
play inside and the top end speed to play outside.
Video - Watch Video
Corey Jones, WR, 5'10/165, Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Considering Cincinnati, Kansas, Penn State, and Pittsburgh among
others
Comments - Quick and vocal. One of the players most likely to make a man miss,
and make sure he knows it. Jones has an excellent feel for finding the open spot
in a zone, and he's not going to drop a pass near him.
Video - Watch Video
Cory Batey, WR, 5'11/180, Nashville, Tenn.
The Opening - Land Sharks
Recruitment - Committed to Vanderbilt
Comments - Lined up in the backfield a lot and did a good job of catching quick
outs and swing passes. Well developed physically.
Video - Watch Video
Cyrus Jones, CB, 5'10/185, Baltimore, Md.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Considering Alabama, Auburn, Penn State, West Virginia, Miami and
Ohio State among others
Comments - A running back as well as defensive back in high school, Jones made
his mark at corner. He's physical and has quick hands to knock a pass away.
Video - Watch Video
Davonte' Neal, DB, 5'10/175, Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Considering seemingly everyone
Comments - An athlete who can play on either side of the ball, Neal made his
mark on defense for his Alpha Speed team, flashing his trademark closing speed
in the defensive backfield.
Video - Watch Video
Deontay Greenberry, WR/S, 6'3/180, Fresno, Calif.
The Opening - Vapor Carbon
Recruitment - Committed to Notre Dame
Comments - One of the most physically gifted players in the nation, Greenberry
has the ability to take over a game on offense or defense, as well as the
tendency to disappear in a game. Consistency will be the key for Greenberry as
he has the talent to be as good as he wants to be.
Video - Watch Video
Deontay McManus, WR, 6'1/210, Baltimore, Md.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to West Virginia
Comments - Another player whose effort level comes into question at times,
McManus was at his best at The Opening. With a linebacker build, McManus ran his
routes like he was on fire. He showed what he is capable of when he's at 100%
all the time.
Video - Watch Video
Derrick Henry '13, TE, 6'3/225, Yulee, Fla.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - National Recruit for '13
Comments - The most physically imposing skill player on the field is also the
youngest. A running back at 6'3/225, Henry played tight end all weekend, which
could be a precursor of things to come in his collegiate future as he keeps
getting bigger and bigger. He has the hands to pull it off.
Video - Watch Video
Devan Bogard, S, 6'1/185, Cleveland, Ohio
The Opening - Vapor Carbon
Recruitment - Committed to Ohio State
Comments - Listed in the Scout database at 175 pounds, Bogard has obviously been
spending some time in the weight room. He has a chiseled frame of an outside
linebacker with long, long arms. Excellent range and break on the ball.
Video - Watch Video
De'Vante
Harris,
CB, 5'11/160, Mesquite, Texas
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to Oklahoma
Comments - Harris is never going to be a big corner as he has narrow shoulders,
but he's got excellent ball skills and coverage ability. He is a good leaper
with long arms and is quick on the uptake in a new system.
Video - Watch Video
Dillon Lee, LB, 6'3/220, Buford, Ga.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - Committed to Alabama
Comments - It's hard for a linebacker to get noticed during a 7on7 tournament,
but Lee did a good job of patrolling the middle of his defense and showed good
sideline to sideline speed chasing down smaller backs and slot receivers.
Video - Watch Video
Dominic Ramacher, TE, 6'3/225, Denton, Texas
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to Oklahoma State
Comments - Listed as a linebacker by Scout, Ramacher showed the ability to play
tight end on the next level as a big target with soft hands and good speed.
Video - Watch Video
Drew Madhu, LB, 6'1/200, Tampa, Fla.
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to Stanford
Comments - A quick outside linebacker, Madhu did a good job of coverage and in
pursuit. Listed as a safety by Scout, outside linebacker could still be in his
future.
Video - Watch Video
Duke Johnson, RB, 5'9/180, Miami, Fla.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - Committed to Miami
Comments - A smaller, quick back, Johnson is ideally suited for the open field
game of 7on7, and he became the perfect outlet for quarterback Chad Kelly.
Johnson has good hands and good open field moves.
Video - Watch Video
Dwayne Stanford, WR, 6'4/195, Cincinnati, Ohio
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Considering Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, and
Kentucky among others.
Comments - A long possession type of receiver, Stanford has a large catching
circle because of his height and wing-span. Decent speed once he gets uncoiled.
Video - Watch Video
Germone Hopper, WR, 6'0/170, Charlotte, N.C.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - Committed to Clemson
Comments - Hopper's name might as well be a description. He is an explosive
athlete capable of getting vertical for a pass or outrunning his defender. A
confident catcher, Hopper was one of the top receivers in attendance.
Video - Watch Video
Herbert Waters, WR, 6'0/170, Miami, Fla.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to Miami
Comments - Not all that big, not all that fast, but Waters always seemed to be
in the mix for his team catching a lot of passes. Sneaky quick and with a good
feel for coverage, Waters didn't do anything that stood out, except pile up
numbers. A very consistent target for his team.
Video - Watch Video
Jake Rodrigues, QB, 6'3/215, Whitney, Calif.
The Opening - Land Sharks
Recruitment - Committed to Oregon
Comments - Out of his element as a running spread quarterback at a pure passing
tournament, Rodrigues struggled predictably to develop a rhythm with his
receivers and throw accurately out of the pocket.
Video - Watch Video
Jaydon Mickens, WR, 5'9/175, Los Angeles, Calif.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to USC
Comments - Another player who looks like he has spent some time in the weight
room, Mickens is noticeably thicker this summer without losing his speed and
quickness. A good option in the slot with his change of direction.
Video - Watch Video
Johnathan Gray, RB, 5'11/190, Aledo, Texas
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to Texas
Comments - One might think a player who rushes for eight touchdowns in a
State Championship as Gray did in 2010 might not have a lot of experience
catching the ball, but Gray proved to all in attendance he's a multi-faceted
threat out of the backfield. He has outstanding hands.
Video - Watch Video
Kenny Lawler, WR, 6'3/185, Upland, Calif.
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to Arizona State
Comments - Lawler is a big target for his quarterback with good speed. Will need
to improve on his route running in order to get separation.
Video - Watch Video
Kolby Listenbee, WR, 6'0/170, Arlington, Texas
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to TCU
Comments - Does a good job of concentrating on the ball and making tough catches
in traffic. His long arms make him seem bigger than his listed 6'0 height.
Video - Watch Video
Landon Collins, S, 6'0/205, Geismar, La.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - LSU and Alabama lead Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Miami
Comments - Collins is built like a college safety already, he looks like a
linebacker, but quarterback after quarterback that tried to test him over the
middle found out just how quick Collins is. Named the tournament MVP as a safety
is quite a feat and Collins earned it.
Video - Watch Video
Latroy Pittman, WR, 6'1/185, Citra, Fla.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to Florida
Comments - Pittman has the build of a running back on the legs of a 10.7 100
meter blazer. Pittman has the hands and speed to be elite, he just needs to keep
refining his craft, specifically his route running.
Video - Watch Video
Malik Gilmore, WR, 6'3/195, Lakewood, Calif.
The Opening - Land Sharks
Recruitment - Committed to Oregon State
Comments - Another big, long receiver, Gilmore runs good underneath routes and
has solid hands. Physical against the press, Gilmore is tough to stop in the
short passing game.
Video - Watch Video
Nelson Agholor, WR, 6'1/175, Tampa, Fla.
The Opening - Alpha Talon
Recruitment - Considering Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Texas among others
Comments - The epitome of the "athlete" position, Agholor stars on
both sides of the ball in high school, but it was on offense that he shined at
The Opening. Agholor catches the ball well considering his limited experience
doing it, and that speed....
Video - Watch Video
P.J. Williams, S, 6'1/180, Ocala, Fla.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to Florida State
Comments - Turns out it's an incredibly deep year for safeties in the Class of
2012, and Williams, who has the size of a big corner, is one of the best in
coverage in the country. He glides from sideline to sideline and has terrific
instincts.
Video - Watch Video
Raymond Ford, CB, 5'9/165, Gardena, Calif.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to UCLA
Comments - Undersized but in his element in a 7on7 as he excels in coverage and
breaking on a ball. In the past has had a tendency to run hot and cold with his
effort, but Ford showed a great attitude and work ethic at The Opening.
Video - Watch Video
Richard Smith, WR, 5'9/160, Long Beach, Calif.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to Arizona State
Comments - Another two-way star, Smith played wide receiver at The Opening, but
he's pretty good at math as well. "Arizona State has what, 10 receivers and
one defensive back? I'm going to play corner," Smith laughed.
Video - Watch Video
Sean Price, TE, 6'4/230, Citra, Fla.
The Opening - SuperBad
Recruitment - Committed to USF
Comments - Price was easily the top tight end, if not one of the top offensive
players period, at The Opening. He had several circus catches, and half the
players in attendance trying to recruit him away from the Bulls. Price's answer
was to recruit for USF.
Video - Watch Video
Tanner Mangum, QB, 6'3/185, Eagle, Id.
The Opening - Vapor Carbon
Recruitment - Committed to BYU
Comments - 7on7 is about a quarterback who makes quick decisions and throws
accurately, and no quarterback excelled at those two skills better than Mangum.
Video - Watch Video
Taylor McNamara, TE, 6'5/235, San Diego, Calif.
The Opening - Vapor Carbon
Recruitment - Committed to Arizona
Comments - Built like a big wide receiver, McNamara caused matchup problems for
opposing linebackers all weekend and became a favorite target of Mangum.
Video - Watch Video
Tee Shepard, DB/WR, 6'0/180, Fresno, Calif.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to Notre Dame
Comments - Some players just have it; Shepard has it. Shepard expects a
ball in the air to be his, and he's often right. For good measure, Shepard moved
over to play some offense and had his team's only touchdown reception in one
game.
Video - Watch Video
T.J. Davis, CB, 6'0/180, Tallahassee, Fla.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Notre Dame leads a host of others
Comments - A physical presence at the line, Davis shows good timing with his
break on the ball and ability to make contact without being called for
interference.
Video - Watch Video
Travis Blanks, S, 6'1/195, Tallahassee, Fla.
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to Clemson
Comments - Blanks had the best single game defensive performance I watched on
Saturday with two interceptions and a third that was called back because it was
ruled a sack. I mentioned during the game that I didn't know what he was ranked,
but it wasn't high enough.
Video - Watch Video
Trey Williams, RB, 5'8/180, Houston, Texas
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to Texas A&M
Comments - A very good receiver out of the backfield and quick in the open
field, Williams also gave a lesson to one team about playing to the whistle as
he ran for a long touchdown after the defense quit having thought they made the
tackle.
Video - Watch Video
Tyler Matthews, QB, 6'3/195, McPherson, Kan.
The Opening - Field Generals
Recruitment - Committed to TCU
Comments - Does a good job of limiting his mistakes and throws a catchable ball.
A bit of a loop in the release, but he gets rid of it quickly regardless.
Video - Watch Video
Wayne Morgan, DB, 5'11/190, Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Opening - Vapor Carbon
Recruitment - Considering Boston College, Connecticut, and Rutgers among others
Comments - Was at his best when he could play the short third and keep the
action in front of him, Morgan struggled in coverage when he had to turn and run
with a man.
Video - Watch Video
Zach Kline, QB, 6'2/195, Danville, Calif.
The Opening - Alpha Speed
Recruitment - Committed to Cal
Comments - The strongest arm in attendance, Kline's was also the most erratic.
Kline was capable of showing flashes of why he is so highly regarded, but he
never looked comfortable in the pocket and struggled mightily over the course of
the weekend.
