Diamondbacks Call Up CMU's Josh Collmenter
The Homer, Mich., native, a 2007 15th-round MLB Draft pick, will be making his Major League debut. The right-hander has made 94 career appearances in the Minor Leagues, all but two of starts. In his Minor League career, he boasts a 41-27 record with a 3.50 ERA.
Collmenter, 25, has earned more wins (35) than any other Minor League pitcher since the start of the 2008 season. Collmenter went 12-8 at Class A South Bend in '08 and logged a 14-6 record split between three levels last season.
During his collegiate career, the 2007 All-America honoree splashed his name throughout the Central Michigan record book. He ranks among the program's leaders in career strikeouts (288, first) wins (24, fourth), innings pitched (301.1, third) and ERA (2.63, eighth).
As a junior, he finished just a third of an inning shy of tying the school's mark for a single season's workload, tossing 116.1 innings (Ty Dunham, 116.2, 2005).
During his 2007 campaign, Collmenter was simply dominant. He was 9-4 with a 1.93 ERA, including an 8-1 mark with a 0.71 ERA in nine Mid-American Conference starts. His postseason awards list includes: MAC Pitcher of the Year, All-MAC first team, All-Mideast Region first team, All-America third team by Baseball America, Great Lakes Region Pitcher of the Year by InsidePitching.com, Academic All-District IV second team, Academic All-MAC and CMU's Most Valuable Player.
His 117 strikeouts that season also rank second on the single season list.
