MOUNT PLEASANT - Three Central Michigan football players have been named to the ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV first team.
Senior linebacker
Matt Berning
, senior defensive lineman
Sean Murnane
and sophomore receiver
Cody Wilson
earned the accolade and will now be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
The Chippewas' three selections are the most of any Mid-American Conference program. This marks the fourth straight season CMU has led the MAC in academic all-district honorees.
Berning (Duisburg, Germany/Mexico (Mo.) HS) is a member of the academic all-district first team for the second straight season. A marketing major with a 3.80 grade-point average, Berning leads CMU in tackles (86), tackles for loss (13) and sacks (four) this season.
Murnane (Green Oaks, Ill./Carmel HS) was an academic all-district second team selection in 2009. A marketing major with a 3.44 GPA, Murnane has tallied 26 tackles, including seven for a loss of yardage, from his tackle position in 2010.
Wilson is a member of the academic all-district team for the first time. He has emerged as the Chippewas' top receiver in 2010, hauling in 60 passes for 902 yards through 10 games. He ranks ninth nationally in total receiving yards and 16th in yards per game (90.2). Wilson, who has yet to declare a major, boasts a 3.91 GPA.
Central Michigan
(3-7 overall, 2-5 MAC) visits
Navy
on Saturday. CBS College Sports will televise the game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
